Front & Center¬ v1.03
by Pete Helme
/* This version also works correctly if you have more than one monitor. It
centers the dialog to the device the cursor is currently over. */
This is just a little blurb to tell you what Front & Center¬ is and how to
use it.
Some lazy friends of mine got sore wrists chasing alerts & dialogs around
their large screen monitors so I whipped up this little cdev for them which
automatically centers any dialog around the cursor. I thought maybe they just
wanted to save their wrists for better backhands at the club or something but
this actually turned out to be quite useful even on regular Mac screens, so I
decided to let it out as Shareware.
How to install: Place the Front&Center¬ file into your System Folder & reboot
your Mac. When the Mac is rebooted open up the Control Panel DA and click on
the Front&Center¬ icon. If its not already on then click the 'ON' button. You
now should notice that most dialogs & alerts open to center on your cursor.
Some dialogs center themselves after I do "my thing", so the cursor-centering
is lost.
Microsoft Word Users: Since Microsoft is better than everyone else they don't
follow Apple's rules for region invalidation and updating, thus you can get
dialog crud left over when using F&C. I've thrown together a quick, but ugly
fix for this problem. If you name MS Word either 'Word' or 'Microsoft Word'
F&C will force a redraw of everything on the desktop when disposing of dialogs
within Word. This cleans things up nicely but is a nuisance and can slow
things down because under MultiFinder it updates other applications as well
(i.e. don't have a 3000 object MacDraw file open under MF at the same time
unless 'thirty something' is on and you have an hour to kill ).
At any time if you wish the dialogs to not center you can turn it off through
the Control Panel or during any action you can hold down the option key.
(editing dialogs while in ResEdit is a good case for this)
This cdev is Shareware. If you use it please send $10 in small unmarked/unretouched bills
